Finnair has bought a total of 19 new Airbus planes - only to sell one of them now before it was delivered. But what sounds like a bad joke is called in specialist circles: Sale and Lease Back.

Airlines sell aircraft and lease them back immediately. As a result, fresh money quickly trickles into the tills, while running costs arise on the other hand. Specifically, the Finnish carrier hopes that this deal will generate more than 2022 million US dollars by 100. The airline signed an agreement for the 17th aircraft in the league - an Airbus A350-900. The deal will be handled by JLPS Holding Ireland Limited, an Irish leasing company. 16 aircraft of the bulk order were already delivered on September 1st. The remaining two A350s are expected to follow in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
