Experience the magic of walking in winter too: With the introduction of certified winter hiking trails, Austria's hiking villages and the Austrian hiking quality seal enable high-quality routes for active nature lovers even in the cold season. This initiative marks a groundbreaking milestone in gentle winter tourism. The first winter hiking trails in Austria have been certified since January.

Certification criteria for winter hiking trails were developed over a period of two years to ensure consistent quality standards and enable hiking regardless of snow conditions. Certified winter hiking trails are clearly and consistently marked, well prepared and require neither special equipment nor alpine knowledge. The trails provide a unique, undisturbed natural experience and are regularly checked and maintained to ensure the safety of hikers.
