The first Airbus A319 intended for Lufthansa's new City Airlines flight operation received its new color scheme in a paint shop at Münster/Osnabrück Airport. This is largely identical to the usual crane livery, but with the addition of “City”.
The medium-haul jet has the registration D-ABGH and is 16,4 years old. The aircraft was originally delivered to Air Berlin in 2007. Before joining City Airlines, this Airbus A319 was also in the air for Belair and Eurowings. It is the first and currently only aircraft to carry the “Lufthansa City” livery.
City Airlines is a new founding of the Lufthansa Group, whose concept is based on the existing sister company Lufthansa Cityline. Initially, the carrier became colloquial dubbed Cityline 2.0, which is also due to the fact that CEO Carsten Spohr himself spoke of a clone. The core business will be feeder flights for the parent company.
City Airlines is initially launching with a fleet consisting of used Airbus A319s. Later, new purchases of the Airbus A220 will be received, making it the second operator of this type in the Kranich group of companies after Swiss. The project is definitely unions a thorn in the side, because it is assumed that existing collective agreements are to be circumvented.
City Airlines has already had an AOC and operating license issued by the German Federal Aviation Authority for several months. It hasn't been commercially launched yet. The fleet is currently being prepared. You are also located looking for staff. City Airlines should then become active in the 2024 summer flight schedule and gradually expand.
