The federal government will increase the coronavirus aid package for the municipalities by 1,5 billion euros. So far so good. But the debate also brings one thing to light: while KLU benefits from the CoV aid package, Graz Airport does not receive a cent.
The Austrian Association of Cities is now criticizing this fact in relation to the ORF. The fixed cost subsidy that is available for private companies would continue to be denied to urban or suburban companies. Legally, however, it must also be accessible to municipal companies. This unequal treatment leads to real competitive disadvantages. For example, Klagenfurt Airport receives support, Graz Airport, on the other hand, does not receive anything. That has to change in the future.
