On behalf of the Austrian Bundesliga club FK Austria Wien, the Maltese airline Lauda Europe operated charter flights to Keflavik. The team flew to Iceland on July 28, 2021.
On Wednesday, the professional footballers of Wiener Austria took the flight number FR9990 with the 9H-LMG from Vienna to Keflavik. In Iceland, the athletes met Breidablik in the European Cup. The Austrians did not win the soccer match.
The return flight was operated on Thursday as FR9991. Lauda Europe parked the machine during the stay of FK Austria Wien at the Icelandic airport Keflavik. The Airbus A320 was therefore not brought back to base between the two flights.
For some time now, Lauda Europe has been promoting the charter business. Company boss David O'Brien told Aviation Direct in July 2021 that one has already landed numerous contracts. In the future, they want to be more represented in this segment.
