Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport (FKB), the second largest commercial airport in Baden-Württemberg, has once again exceeded its own records in 2024. With over 1,8 million passengers and an increase of 4% over the previous year, the airport can look back on an extremely successful year. This is the third record in a row after the Corona pandemic temporarily affected passenger numbers. The number of flight movements also recorded an increase of 2,5%, which underlines the airport's continued positive development. In 2025, Baden-Airpark wants to build on these successes with an expanded range of flights and the support of numerous airlines and tour operators.
In 2024, Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport recorded a 4% increase in passengers compared to the previous year, with a total of 1.812.844 passengers. This increase is particularly notable as it exceeds the 1,8 million passenger mark for the first time. In addition, the number of flight movements in 2024 was increased to almost 42.000 take-offs and landings, an increase of 2,5% compared to 2023. These increases illustrate the airport's continuous growth, which continues unabated despite the challenges of recent years.
"The FKB owes its constant success not least to the trusting cooperation with our airlines and tour operators. Coping with the volume of passengers was only possible thanks to the professional and committed work of our team. The 40 destinations on offer have been very well received and are extremely important for the accessibility of our region," commented Uwe Kotzan, Managing Director of the FKB. This positive development was not only achieved through the continuous expansion of the route network and an improvement in the range of services, but also through close cooperation with various airlines and tour operators.
Outlook for the 2025 summer flight schedule
With the 2025 summer flight schedule, Baden-Airpark is planning further steps to expand its capacities and services. Ryanair will further expand connections to popular holiday destinations by stationing a fourth aircraft at FKB. The destinations that will now be served more frequently include Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Barcelona-Girona, Malaga and Valencia. Sarajevo is also new to the program. Ryanair is thus responding to the increasing demand for connections to popular holiday destinations and strengthening the airport's role as an important hub in the region.
In addition to the popular destinations in Spain and Croatia, Ryanair will now also offer winter routes to Seville, Thessaloniki and the Canary Islands (Tenerife South and Gran Canaria) in summer. This expansion of the route offering ensures that the airport is well utilized not only during peak travel times, but also outside of the traditional holiday months.
The travel companies Freebird Airlines and Corendon Airlines are also resuming flights to Antalya on the Turkish Riviera, with additional flights being offered during the Whitsun holidays. This increase in the range of holiday flights is another sign of the increasing popularity of the FKB as a starting point for trips to the Mediterranean region.
Wizz Air, another established airline at FKB, will also be expanding its services. The connections to Sibiu, Skopje, Timisoara and Tirana will in future be served with a larger number of seats, which will primarily meet the needs of travelers from Eastern Europe. This expansion will strengthen the airport's international network and promote tourism in the region.
Eurowings will even increase the number of connections to Mallorca from FKB to up to two daily flights. This measure shows how important Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport has become for the tourism industry and the business travel market in southwest Germany.
Finally, the tour operator TUI also remains loyal to the FKB and relies on its charter flights, especially during the Whitsun holidays, to popular destinations such as Mallorca, Rhodes, Crete, Kos, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. These flights complement the already wide range of offers and offer travelers a variety of attractive options.
The successful development of Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport in recent years impressively shows how important close cooperation between airport operators, airlines and tour operators is for the success of an airport. The continuous expansion of the route network and the improvement of service quality are making a significant contribution to the airport's ability to further consolidate its position as the second largest commercial airport in Baden-Württemberg. With an expanded range of flights in the 2025 summer flight schedule and the support of major partners such as Ryanair, Eurowings and Wizz Air, FKB is optimistic about the future. The airport is therefore well positioned for further growth and continued positive development.
