Flying personnel: Swiss introduces mandatory vaccination

Advertising

As the first member of the Lufthansa Group, Swiss will introduce mandatory vaccinations for flight personnel with effect from November 15, 2021. As an argument one introduces that "the worldwide country-specific entry regulations, which increasingly require a vaccination for crews as well" would make this necessary.

Swiss also claims that the decision was made for "operational and caring reasons". "In order to be able to maintain our worldwide route network in the future and to fulfill our duty of care towards our employees, it is important to take the necessary steps now," says company boss Dieter Vranckx.

Swiss relies on the corresponding clauses in the collective employment contracts for the cockpit and cabin personnel, which provide for such a measure under these circumstances. There is a transparent exchange with the social partners. Incidentally, the Lufthansa subsidiary did not disclose whether the employment relationships with pilots and flight attendants who would still not be vaccinated will be terminated - in other words, the refusal is a "free ticket" for termination.
