The Mariazell Railway is currently severely affected by flood damage, which is why the valley section between St. Pölten and Laubenbachmühle is served by buses as a rail replacement service.
From November 4 to 22, 2024, the annual autumn construction work will be carried out along the entire route from St. Pölten to Mariazell. In addition to the planned modernizations, the last damage from the flood will be repaired.
As part of the work, safety systems at level crossings will be renewed and the overhead line at Mariazell station will be connected to the line. In addition, extensive track and bridge renovations are on the agenda in order to continue to operate the narrow-gauge line sustainably. Particular attention will be paid to the introduction of a half-hourly service during rush hour from December 2024 in order to meet growing demand.
During the construction work, a rail replacement service will operate at the usual departure times. The work will secure the future of the more than 115-year-old route and ensure greater safety and comfort for passengers.
