Airports in Germany: fewer passengers, a little more freight

The recovery in passenger demand at German airports remains at almost three quarters of the pre-crisis level: compared to September, the number of travelers has fallen by almost 180.000 and totals 17,65 million arriving and departing passengers.

A total of 17,65 million passengers used German airports in October, according to the ADV airport association in a press release. Compared to October 2021, the volume increased by 39,4 percent. At 156.003 take-offs and landings, the number of commercial flight movements was 14,5 percent higher than in the previous year; compared to 2019, almost three quarters of commercial flights were carried out. This means that more than 140,35 million passengers were counted at German airports from January to October, but this is still 34,9 percent short of the pre-crisis level.

The absolute volume of cargo continues to increase compared to September. The 431.736 t still means a decrease of 8,3 percent compared to October 2021, but compared to the pre-crisis level in 2019 the growth is 2,9 percent. Compared to the same month of the previous year, invitations fell by 5,3 percent, and unloadings also fell by 11,6 percent. In the cumulative view of the year 2022, the cargo volume developed by -4,9 percent to 4.218.634 tons - compared to the pre-crisis level in 2019, this means growth of 6,0 percent and an additional almost 240.000 tons.
