Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport increased significantly in May and reached the highest level since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

Thanks to many vacationers, the airport operator counted almost 4,6 million passengers in the past month and thus around 600.000 more than in April, as Fraport reports in a broadcast. That was more than three and a half times as many passengers as a year earlier and a good 26 percent fewer than before the pandemic in May 2019. However, the company is struggling with a lack of personnel after the industry and Fraport cut thousands of jobs during the pandemic.

In the long booming cargo business, the airport once again recorded a decline. In May, around 169.300 tons of freight and airmail were handled in Frankfurt - 15,6 percent less than a year earlier. Fraport explained the development with the airspace restrictions caused by the Ukraine war and the tough corona protection measures in China.
