A few days ago, the airline Vietjet carried out the first flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney. The event is of particular importance for the Australian airport, because 50 airlines are now active at this airport - a new record in its 103-year history.

Sydney Airport now has four airlines serving Vietnam, a fast-growing tourism market that attracted more than 2019 Australian travelers in 317.000. Flight VJ85 landed in Sydney just after 07:30 today with almost 400 passengers on board. Vietjet will operate three weekly round-trip flights from Ho Chi Minh City using its A330-300 fleet.

In total, Sydney Airport has welcomed six new airlines on board in the past 12 months and the existing airlines have returned and continue to increase capacity, giving travelers plenty of choice. In 2019 there were 48 airlines regularly flying to Sydney and this number will drop to around 2020 airlines in April 20.

Geoff Culbert, CEO of Sydney Airport said: “For the first time in our proud 103 year history we have 50 airlines serving Sydney Airport. That's an incredible feat considering there was almost no air travel during Covid."
