Vienna Airport, the home base of Austrian Airlines, welcomed the rescue package for the Lufthansa subsidiary presented on Monday evening.

“This ensures the continued existence and a growth-oriented orientation of the Vienna aviation hub. The entire business and tourism location Austria needs this connection in order to participate in global trade and international travel, thousands of jobs across the country depend on it. With the agreement reached, Vienna Airport can also sustainably secure and develop its role as a hub in the Lufthansa group to Eastern Europe and, above all, on long-haul routes. Aviation remains a growth industry and, as it has already done after previous crises such as 9/11 or SARS, will also recover from the Covid 19 crisis and grow faster than before. Because the need for mobility is unbroken and an economy like Austria, whose gross domestic product depends 60 percent on exports, needs good international air traffic connections on short and long-haul routes. The basis for this is a growth-oriented aviation hub at Vienna Airport with a strong network carrier Austrian Airlines. With the agreement reached, both could now be secured in the long term and this creates a growth-oriented future perspective for the entire Austrian business and tourism location ", stated the board members of Flughafen Wien AG, Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner, regarding today's decision regarding Austrian Airlines.
