In 2022, Flughafen Wien AG was able to increase its net income to EUR 128,1 million. Sales climbed from 407 million euros in 2021 to 692,7 million euros. The EBIT-DA rose to 295,9 million euros.

Revenues in the Airport segment increased by 2022% year-on-year to €89,3 million in 321,0, and segment EBIT improved to €49,4 million. The Handling & Security Services segment recorded growth in revenue by 32,3% to €124,9 million, the segment EBIT improved to minus €3,5 million. This also includes the security services of VIAS and the ground handling services of Vienna Aircraft Handling (VAH) and Vienna Passenger Handling Services ( VPHS) included. In the Retail & Properties segment, sales increased by 2022% to € 68,6 million in 138,8. The segment EBIT amounted to € 64,2 million. The sales of the Malta segment increased by 2022% to € in 85,6 88,0 million, the segment EBIT amounted to € 41,5 million.

“Vienna Airport is showing strength again after the Corona low. 2022 brought a sharp increase in net income to over €128 million, around €2011 million in debt has been reduced since 800 and debt freedom was achieved in 2022. This good economic result enables a clear growth course through higher investments, it should be around € 2023 million in 135, partly through the dynamic growth of AirportCity. The dividend will be 60% of net income after minorities. This not only benefits the shareholders, but also all employees, and the quota is expected to increase in 2023. The number of employees at the site has risen by around 800 as a result of the settlement of new companies, above all by the satellite drive manufacturer Enpulsion, more than 350 of them in the FWAG Group. The growth story makes the airport share an interesting investment, and maintaining the stock market listing is an important corporate goal,” says Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Jäger expects up to 27 million passengers

In the Flughafen Wien Group, including the international subsidiaries Malta Airport and Kosice Airport, the number of passengers rose to a total of 2022 million (+30,1%) in 129,3. Compared to the pre-crisis level (2019), this corresponds to a minus of almost 24%. With 23,7 million passengers, Flughafen Wien AG more than doubled the number of passengers compared to the previous year and has thus reached 75% of the record level of 2019. Passenger development forecast for 2023: Around 32-34 million passengers are expected in the Flughafen Wien Group and around 26-27 million passengers at the Vienna location

Due to the positive prospects, the result for the period should improve to over €150 million, with sales of around €830 million and EBITDA of at least €325 million. “The strong passenger growth of 2022 will continue this year: for the full year 2023 we expect a passenger volume of around 26 to 27 million passengers at the Vienna location and 32 to 34 million passengers in the entire FWAG Group. Travelers can look forward to many new flight offers in the summer: up to 190 destinations can be reached directly from Vienna, including many new short and medium-haul destinations in European cities and in the Mediterranean regions. Long-haul routes are also coming back strongly with the new connection to Delhi and increases to Africa, Asia and Canada. The market is recovering, the available seating capacity will be around 90% of the pre-crisis level in the summer. We are preparing for this and are taking on around 350 new employees, primarily in the terminal, security control and passenger and ground handling. Because high service quality is our top priority: In 2022, VIE was the third most punctual hub in Europe, and in January 2023 it was the second most punctual hub in Europe,” explains Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Additional gastronomic offer and new company settlement

From Easter 2023, passengers can expect an expanded gastronomic offer: the Zugvogel panorama restaurant will be modernized and will have an open kitchen, DO & CO will open a new food court at the C-Gates with an onyx and delicatessen bar, and Figlmüller will expand its range to include a panorama Bar. Billa Corso, Burger King and Costa Coffee are opening three new, strong gastronomy and retail brands in the Arrivals Hall. The southern extension of Terminal 3 with 70.000 m² of additional terminal space will bring even more options in the future, which will also expand the entire shopping and restaurant area at the airport by 50% to a total of 30.000 m². Above all, strong Austrian gastronomy brands as well as national and international premium brands are sought after. Tenant acquisition will start in autumn 2023 and should be completed by the end of 2024. The opening is planned for 2027.

With the manufacturer of satellite propulsion systems, the company Enpulsion, a particularly innovative company is settling at Vienna Airport. Production at the airport is scheduled to start as early as summer. The company counts Elon Musk's Starlink program among its important customers. These and other company settlements will lead to an increase in the number of employees at the location by at least 800 people, in the airport group the plus will be over 350 employees.
