Food waste: Lufthansa is now selling leftovers at lower prices

Around two years ago, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines introduced what is known as paid catering in economy class on short and medium-haul routes. At that time, high-quality food was promised. However, the group was also criticized because the price level is sometimes extremely high.

Demand is quite subdued on some routes, as many passengers are not willing to pull out their payment card for food and drink. Lufthansa is now launching a new initiative: on all flights to Frankfurt and Munich on which Onboard Delights are offered, passengers have the opportunity shortly before landing to buy fresh products that have not been sold before at a lower price of a standard 3,50 euros buy and take away. Another step towards reducing food waste, after Lufthansa introduced the possibility to pre-order these products in February this year.
