Austria's largest logistics group, Österreichische Post AG, transported more parcels than ever before last year. In doing so, the company not only increased domestically, but also in international shipping. Many shipments were carried by air.

Austrian Post transports parcels and pallets in a total of nine countries. Namely in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Austria, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary and Turkey. The Turkish branch Aras Kargo grew particularly strongly, as it had a volume of 217 million shipments. In Austria, the post office increased by eleven percent to 184 million parcels.

“Across all subsidiaries, the parcel volumes in 2021 amounted to 452 million items. Most of them in Austria and Turkey. But our subsidiaries in Central and Eastern Europe also recorded enormous growth rates with a volume increase of 16 percent. We transported almost 52 million parcels there last year,” says Peter Umundum, Member of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG, who emphasizes that the growth in foreign markets, as in Austria, is primarily due to the increasing trend towards e-commerce is.

2022 will also be characterized by targeted investments. For example, Express One in Hungary is putting new sorting systems into operation, in Slovakia the conveyor technology in the logistics centers is being expanded and the parcel machines are also being further expanded throughout CEE. At Aras Kargo, the sorting capacity in the logistics centers will be increased by a further 30 percent and the delivery fleet will be expanded and renewed.
