Some aircraft that have been parked so far can look forward to a deployment, even if it is initially limited in time: Lufthansa is using four Airbus A350s at the Frankfurt hub for the duration of the winter flight schedule.
The economical long-haul aircraft will fly to Chicago and Los Angeles from Germany's largest commercial airport in the coming months - replacing the Boeing 747-8. From December onwards, the Airbus A340 will also suffer the same fate. At least the planes that are used on the route to Tokyo-Haneda.
16 A350-900 aircraft are currently stationed at the Lufthansa hub in Munich. "Due to the severely reduced range of flights due to the corona pandemic, only seven A350-900s will initially be used on routes to North America and Asia in this year's winter flight schedule," it said in a broadcast.
