From April 23, 2023, Lufthansa will be offering non-stop flights between Frankfurt am Main and Belfast City. As things stand, it will be the only link between Germany and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom.

It is currently planned that the crane airline will offer up to four round trips between the two cities. Transfer passengers have also been considered, as they want to offer an alternative to the IAG hubs to which Belfast is connected.

“Bringing an airline like Lufthansa to Northern Ireland, which offers the only connection from the region to Germany, is a huge win not only for the airport but also for the tourism and business sectors. With Germany being the third largest market for overseas tourism on the island of Ireland, there is a clear demand for direct connections,” said Katy Best, Commercial Director at Belfast City Airport.

It is currently planned that new Lufthansa subsidiaries will be served with Embraer jets. There are flights between the two cities on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. If this is successful, it is conceivable that the frequencies could be increased at a later date.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of Belfast City Airport to Lufthansa's global route network with the maiden flight to Frankfurt on April 23, 2023. This new non-stop service brings Northern Ireland even closer to Frankfurt and the heart of Western Europe. In the summer of 2023, connecting passengers will enjoy a convenient and fully-fledged connection beyond our hub to our extensive network of over 200 destinations,” says Frank Wagner, General Manager Sales, UK, Ireland and Iceland at the Lufthansa Group.
