The French airport Le Touquet-Paris-Plage will in future be named in honor of the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II. The airport is mainly used by general aviation and claims to have many customers from the United Kingdom.
According to the city administration, the corresponding decision will be made at the next city council meeting. This is scheduled for October 24, 2022. The small airport was built in the mid-1930s and has since been used mainly by British holidaymakers. At times it was even the airport with the third largest passenger volume in France.
The small airport is currently mainly used by general aviation. In the summer months there are always charter flights that are carried out with Airbus and Boeing jets. These are mainly incoming charters from the UK. The renaming in honor of Queen Elizabeth II is also intended to take account of the fact that her uncle Edward VIII often vacationed in this region of France.
