France: Unions see hop future in danger

The reduction in domestic flights ordered by the French government could also have an impact on the Air France subsidiary Hop. This has not been operating under its own brand for some time, but is formally flying on behalf of the parent company. 12 French unions are concerned that the Regio subsidiary could be closed completely.

This is indicated by the fact that the take-off and landing rights that are to be returned at Paris-Orly airport have so far been flown with hop aircraft. The unions rely on internal documents and claim that Air France is planning to relocate the Airbus A220-300 aircraft that it has ordered to the mainline rather than Hop. These should then also be used on routes that are currently served by the regional subsidiary.

As a result, there are concerns on the part of employee representatives that Hop, and in particular their jobs, could fall victim to the restructuring. The French government is expected to make a clear statement on the future of the regional airline, also with a view to increasing state aid and participation. Furthermore, the employee representatives want to enforce employment guarantees.
