The German airport association ADV elected a new board. Fraport boss Stefan Schule remains president. Ludger van Bebber (Dortmund) and Andrea Gebbeken (Munich) are the vice-presidents.
“Our industry can only recover in the long term if blanket quarantine regulations give way to improved test strategies. Despite all the hopeful news that vaccines will soon be available, aviation needs a convincing recovery strategy. The restart of international air traffic has to begin for economic reasons. The airports, as indispensable infrastructures in the economic supply chains, remain reliable partners for business and regions even in the crisis, ”said Schulte at the start of his second term as ADV President. “The German airports play a pioneering role internationally when it comes to noise and climate protection. They will reduce their own CO2 emissions by 2030 percent by 50 - among other things by investing in energy-efficient buildings and electrically powered vehicles. In addition, the airports have committed to further reducing their CO2 emissions with the binding goal of being completely CO2050 neutral by 2. In order to bring all air traffic in line with climate protection, a modernization of the fleet and a system change towards alternative fuels are required. This will only succeed with a fair regulatory framework that guarantees neutral competitive conditions. I will work for this in Brussels and Berlin ”.
