From Monday, the Spanish government will also be allowing entry from non-EU countries without a test or vaccination certificate if the respective state is not on the risk list. In Europe this mainly affects the UK. The EU Commission doesn't mind this at all.

It was the governing body of the European Union that demanded that entry be made possible with test, vaccination or recovery proof, regardless of origin. However, the actual implementation is the responsibility of the individual EU members. Spain went beyond the requirements of the EU Commission and does not require any “Corona documents” at all if they come from third countries that are classified as safe.

The fact that, of all things, the United Kingdom, which has left the EU, is now better off compared to most EU states, is arousing the anger of Brussels. The EU Commission cannot do more than verbally complain about it, because the entry regulations are national affairs of the nation states. Spain has decided that people coming from the UK no longer need any proof and of course do not have to go into quarantine.

UK put Portugal on the red list

The background is likely to be that Spain wants to attract as many tourists as possible to the country. It is currently classified as green by the UK. A look at Portugal shows how quickly such a reclassification can take place. The UK government canceled Spain's green list neighborsresulting in quarantine. Numerous airlines have launched special flights in order to be able to bring the British home before the reclassification takes effect.

Malta, which has also been very popular with tourists from the United Kingdom in the past, is still rated red by the UK. There is growing anger about this on the Mediterranean island, as the UK is traditionally the main source market. There are currently cancellations, because the tourists would have to go into quarantine when they return to the UK. In the summer of the previous year, Malta was put on the red list for a short time and subsequently the British remained almost completely absent.

Austria currently does not want to know anything from the United Kingdom in the figurative sense. The Ministry of Health, headed by Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens), spoke under the guise of the "India mutation" another landing ban out. As a result, non-stop flights that started in the UK are not allowed to land in the Alpine republic. Transfers are not included.
