Friday: Cockpit Association calls on Lufthansa pilots to go on strike

The Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union is calling on its members at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo to go on an all-day strike on Friday, September 2nd, 2022. According to the employee, the negotiations on the collective wage agreements had previously failed again.

The work stoppages are expected to take place between 00:01 a.m. and 23:59 p.m. Since a large number of Kranich pilots are organized in the VC, a high level of participation can be expected. Therefore, significant effects on the flight operations of Lufthansa and its freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo are to be expected.

"Aware of our responsibility for companies and guests, we wanted to leave no stone unturned and offered another negotiation date despite an inadequate offer and failed negotiations. We did not receive a sufficient offer today either. This is sobering and a missed opportunity. The employer took advantage of yesterday's negotiation date, but did not use it to move towards the union's demands with an improved offer. Therefore, the only thing left for us to do is to enforce our demands with a labor dispute," said VC spokesman Matthias Baier.

"In order to avert labor disputes, Lufthansa must present a significantly improved offer," says Marcel Gröls, chairman of VC's collective bargaining policy. "We're too far apart at the moment. In addition to compensating for the loss in real wages, what we now need above all is a future-proof solution for the remuneration structure in all professional groups.”

For Lufthansa, HR Director Michael Niggemann explains: “We have no understanding of VC’s call for a strike. The employer side made a very good and socially balanced offer - despite the lasting effects of the Corona crisis and uncertain prospects for the global economy. This escalation is at the expense of many thousands of customers.”
