The young airline Norse Atlantic Airways operated its first flight from London-Gatwick to New York-JFK on Friday. Formally, it is a fifth-freedom flight, since the carrier has neither a British nor an American AOC.
That should change in the medium term, because the group is building a UK branch, which will then be active from Gatwick with British certificates. Currently they are still flying under Norwegian AOC, which means that the machines have to take a very interesting route from Oslo. It is still completely open when the UK Civil Aviation Authority will issue AOC and operating licence.
Just about two months ago, Norse Atlantic Airways carried out the maiden flight on the Oslo-New York JFK route. Long-haul flights to the United States of America will also be available soon from the German federal capital Berlin.
From a British perspective, Norse Atlantic Airways is the seventh airline to operate between London and New York. From Gatwick, there are three operators on the JFK route alone. Destinations such as Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and other US destinations are also being aimed for from the aforementioned airport, which is to serve as the home base of Norse Altlantic UK in the future.
