Since Monday, New Zealand has been allowing tourists from a total of 60 countries, including Austria, Germany and Switzerland, to enter again. Among other things, it is necessary to be able to prove at least two vaccinations against Covid-19.

On May 2, 2022, after a long period of isolation, New Zealand released entry for vaccinated people who do not need a visa due to their citizenship. However, it is expected that due to the time of year, tourism will not recover until around October 2022. However, entry does not yet work without conditions.

In addition to proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test result that was made in the home country before departure must be presented. Immediately after entering New Zealand, you have to undergo another PCR test. The approach has been sharply criticized by local tourism, because Australia, for example, would no longer require “double testing” in addition to compulsory vaccination.

In March 2020, New Zealand had largely isolated itself from the outside world due to the corona pandemic. Even one's own citizens were only allowed to enter the country with an important reason and, in some cases, a long quarantine. This circumstance was declared illegal by the Supreme Court. The government pursued the zero-Covid strategy for a long time, but this has since been abandoned. For a few weeks now, New Zealand has been gradually reopening to international visitors.
