Geneva Airport posted a loss of 84,1 million Swiss francs in the previous year. This is a negative first in the long history of the airport, as it was always profitable before. The year 2019 ended with a plus of 84,1 million Swiss francs.

In the “Corona year 2020”, sales fell from 494 million Swiss francs to 191,2 million Swiss francs. The airport implemented various austerity measures to keep the deficit as low as possible. Nevertheless, they were in the red for the first time. Geneva was used by 5.600.906 travelers. Compared to 2019, a decrease of 68,8 percent.

The prospects are difficult, at least in the short term, because Swiss currently only serves the destinations Zurich, Pristina and Frankfurt am Main. All other destinations have been suspended due to the stricter entry and quarantine regulations. The Lufthansa subsidiary is committed to Geneva and wants to reactivate the pausing routes as soon as possible.
