The Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss, according to its own statements, reduces flight operations to an "absolute minimum". The offer from Geneva is primarily affected, but the offer will also be reduced again in Zurich.

As a reason for the measure, the carrier states that the tightening of entry and quarantine issues announced by the Federal Council on January 27 led to a sharp decline in demand. Therefore, flight operations in Geneva will be reduced to an “absolute minimum” until at least the end of February 2021. However, the Lufthansa subsidiary emphasizes that it is committed to this location.

Swiss is active in the point-to-point segment from Geneva and also criticizes the fact that there has not yet been a corona test station at this airport. The feeders to the Zurich and Frankfurt am Main hubs will be maintained until the end of February 2021. In this way, the Lufthansa subsidiary wants to ensure that western Switzerland is not completely “left behind”.

“Geneva is and will remain an extremely important location for Swiss. As soon as the framework conditions allow it and the demand for air travel increases again, we will gradually expand our offer from Geneva as well as from Zurich ”, explains the new Swiss boss Dieter Vranckx.

At the hub in Zurich, a large part of the continental and intercontinental routes offered can be maintained due to feeder and cargo flights. Nevertheless, the already heavily reduced flight offer will be reduced again on February 1, 2021. In February, Swiss only has 10 percent of the 2019 flight program on offer.
