With Gerd Stöwer, the German regional airport Erfurt-Weimar is getting a new boss. He succeeds Uwe Kotzan, who headed the airport's fortunes for many years and will move to Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden, also as managing director, on January 1, 2021.
Stöwer is a graduate engineer for aerospace and teaches "Airport Operations and Aviation Policy" as an honorary professor at the TU Dresden. After studying at the TU Berlin, he held various positions at Deutsche Lufthansa in Hamburg and Frankfurt. Born in Berlin, he was accepted into the management of Dresden and Leipzig / Halle Airports in 1992 and, shortly after reunification, made a significant contribution to the development and expansion of the two commercial airports in Saxony. Later, as sole managing director (CEO), he headed the international airport Münster / Osnabrück in North Rhine-Westphalia for many years. At the same time, the managing director performed various functions in the Association of German Airports (ADV) and in the Federal Association of the German Air Transport Industry (BDL). In 2017, Prof. Stöwer started his own business as a management consultant. Since then he has advised companies in the aviation industry, especially airports, on operational and strategic issues.
The long-time managing director Uwe Kotzan left the company today and will take over his new role as managing director of Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport on January 01st, 2021. Prof. Stöwer thanked the former managing director Uwe Kotzan for his many years of successful work at Erfurt-Weimar Airport and, in particular, for being extremely committed to the needs of Erfurt Airport up to the last day of work.
