The airline German Airways (formerly WDL) will be using Hangar 2 at Cologne / Bonn Airport in the future. In the future, it will also offer line and base maintenance services for other airlines. So far, the company has been using the smaller Hangar 6.
The new hall is 3.500 square meters and, according to German Airways, is ideal for the needs of the Embraer 190. These should not have fully fitted into Hangar 6. In the new shipyard, the jets can now also be serviced with the gates closed. The building also includes a further 800 square meters of office, workshop and storage space
At the new location, German Airways also wants to accelerate and expand the maintenance business with other airlines for the Embraer E190, the company is already active as a service provider for line and base maintenance for several other airlines. In Hangar 2, space is also sublet to partner companies - for example to Air Alliance.
German Airways' private aircraft fleet will also be housed in Hangar 2: The first Pilatus PC12 is currently in the official approval process for passenger transport. The aircraft called “Silver Pony” will be supplemented by another PC12 in the summer. With these aircraft, German Airways will offer individual flights for companies and private individuals. The turboprops are equipped with up to eight passenger seats.
