German Airways withdraws Ego Airways only aircraft

The Italian Ego Airways has not been in the air for a long time and the future of the young airline is completely unclear. German Airways, from which an Embraer 190 was leased without a crew as part of a dry lease agreement, has fetched the aircraft back.

The German aviation company, which emerged from WDL, announced: "After several months of differing views on the interpretation of the contract, the aircraft has now been returned to German Airways."

Rumors have been circulating in Italy for a few weeks that Ego Airways may have gotten up and miscalculated right from the start. It is completely unclear whether this provider will ever grow again. In any case, you have to do without the aircraft from the Zeitfracht subsidiary: “German Airways has ended the cooperation with the Italian startup airline Ego Airways with immediate effect. The Cologne-based airline had given the Italian airline an Embraer E190 aircraft without crews since the end of October last year (dry lease). In doing so, it tried to build a route network from its base in Milan and to fly to smaller Italian airports such as Venice, Verona, Pisa, Florence or Pescara ”. The Embraer 190, registered as I-EGOA, was flown to Germany and will soon be registered again on German Airways in Germany. Personnel were already being sought for this machine a few days ago.

Trouble also with ticket seller Green Airlines

It is not the first time in 2021 that German Airways has burned its fingers with a start-up company. In Germany, the Embraer 190 flew briefly for the ticket seller Green Airlines, but the plane adue to payment arrears. Nevertheless, one insists on the financial fulfillment of the contract and sued the ticket seller for an amount of millions of euros.

No ACMI or charter services were provided for Ego Airways, but the Embraer 190 was rented without a crew. The aircraft was registered on the AOC of the Italian operator and was operated by them. It is a common practice in aviation that airlines lease planes to each other not only “wet” (with crew), but also “dry” (without crew). The activity for the ticket seller Green Airlines, which has meanwhile ended, involved charter flights.
