UK-based startup Global Airlines has announced that it has acquired an Airbus A380-800 most recently operated by China Southern Airlines. This is the machine with serial number 120, which was registered to the Chinese operator as B-6140.

Since Global Airlines itself does not have an AOC or operating license, the superjumbo will be operated by Hifly Malta. In the Maltese aviation register, the aircraft that was last parked in the desert was recorded as 9H-GLOBL. According to the announcement, the machine will be delivered in the next few weeks.

According to its own information, Global Airlines has now acquired two Airbus A380-800s. In addition to the 9H-GLOBL, there is the 9H-MIP, which was previously used by Hifly Malta for ACMI and charter flights. In 2020, the Maltese carrier separated from this pattern. This aircraft, which bears serial number 6, was originally delivered to Singapore Airlines.

Global Airlines plans to launch with a purely Airbus A380 fleet. The reason for purchasing the superjumbos is that there would then be no ongoing leasing payments. Furthermore, it is quite possible that these can be had comparatively cheaply, as there is no real used market for this type of machine. Apart from Global Airlines, there is no demand.
