The Boeing 717 machine type, which was developed by McDonnell Douglas, is now becoming increasingly rare. In the United States of America, GlobalX is interested in incorporating this pattern. One is already looking for pilots with the appropriate type rating.

In the USA, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for GlobalX to find pilots who meet the requirements according to the job advertisement, since Delta, for example, is still actively operating this type and only phased out the last units of the MD-80 series in the wake of the corona pandemic Has. The airline mentioned is currently the world's largest operator of the Boeing 717, which was originally developed by McDonnell Douglas as the MD-95.

According to a report by CH-Aviation.com, GlobalX is said to be leasing this type of machine from BCC Equipment Leasing. It is a group-owned Lessor from the manufacturer Boeing. Specifically, the former Volotea-B717 will be operated by GlobalX in the future. Specifically, it is about 13 machines, because the other four jets of this type belong to other lessors.

Meanwhile, the circle of Boeing 717 operators has become small. In Europe, Volotea was the last operator of this pattern. Only three airlines worldwide still use this model on a large scale and with GlobalX a fourth operator is added. With 88 units, Delta Air Lines is the world's largest B717 operator. Hawaiian Airlines uses 20 and Cobham Aviation Services 19. Delta will phase out this type by 2025, so used aircraft will become more widely available. Airbus A220s serve as a replacement.
