The BAe 146 regional jet, also known as the Jumbolino, is now rarely seen. The last operator in Germany was WDL, which now operates as German Airways and has become an Embraer 190 operator. In Australia, Cobham Aviation Services Australia operated the last commercial flight with this type.
This aviation company was once one of the world's largest BAe-146 operators. Since 1990 there have been over 33 copies - including the successor Avro RJ - in operation. With the VH-NJY, the last copy was shut down towards the end of the previous year. The regional jet with this registration was an Avro RJ100, which Cityflyer Express acquired for a British Airways operation in 1998. In 2021, the four-jet engine moved to Downunder.
The last BAe-146 flight from Cobham was operated as a so-called “Fly In - Fly Out” charter between Murrin Murrin and Perth. This type of machine had been in use in Western Australia since 1985. Originally the now defunct Ansett and National Jet Systems, from which Cobham emerged, brought the British four-jet engine down under. The successor models Avro RJ85 / RJ100 had been in use at Cobham since 1998.
Operation of the 20 Boeing 717s, five de Havilland Dash 8-400s and four Embraer 190s is to continue. With the first-mentioned type of aircraft, Qantas is also active in domestic transport under the Qantas Link brand. There is no direct successor to the phased out BAe 146.
