On Monday, Austrian Airlines resumed the non-stop connection between Graz and Düsseldorf after a long break. For the time being, this will be served with the Embraer 195 twice a week. An increase to four weekly circulations is planned for June 2021.
This route was used for a short time in autumn 2020, but was discontinued as a result of the fact that Germany classified Styria as a “risk area” and quarantine obligations resulted from it. At that time, demand collapsed rapidly. In future, the Stuttgart route will no longer be served by Austrian Airlines, but by Eurowings. This means that aircraft of the type Airbus A319, which are stationed in Baden-Württemberg, are to be used. In the course of this week, AUA is increasing the connection between Styria and the Vienna hub to up to 14 flights per week. Most recently there were around ten connections.
In contrast to the AUA, the sister company did not take the route announced for April 12, 2021. The same applies to the future Eurowings route between Düsseldorf and Linz. According to a company spokesman, there are two connections mentioned no specific date yet for the first flight. In any case, Austrian Airlines will no longer serve Graz-Stuttgart and Linz-Düsseldorf.
“It is important to gradually re-stimulate international travel,” explains Jürgen Löschnig, Managing Director of Graz Airport, “so the return from Düsseldorf is of course a special highlight! And not only for us, but also for the many Styrian companies that have long been pushing for the route to be resumed. But the increase in the number of flights to Vienna is also of great importance, as this will greatly improve the transfer options from Graz ”.
