Graz expects up to 80 percent less sales

The corona crisis is leaving deep marks in the finances of Graz Airport. The airport is currently recording a drop in sales of 75 percent. Managing director Gerhard Widmann hopes that the current financial year can be closed with a minus of 75 to 80 percent. The manager does not expect any improvement until next year.

The year 2019 went particularly well for Graz Airport, because the magical one million passenger mark was cracked. This year we are very far from that and are expecting at most about 300.000 travelers, explains managing director Gerhard Widmann to the Austrian broadcasting company.

But the airport also has another problem, literally on its neck. The economy is dependent on connections in double the daily margin regardless of the corona pandemic. These are currently only very sparse from Graz. However, they are working hard on that, as Wolfgang Malik, CEO of Graz Holding, told him ORF explains: “It is the case that we have to ensure that we make the connections that the Federation of Industry, the Chamber of Commerce and the individual companies demand of us, that we make them available again to the appropriate extent - and daily marginal connections are the corresponding extent can."
