The Austrian National Council will deal with the “Green Pass” planned by Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) for the first time on Thursday, March 25, 2021. The Parliamentary Directorate announced this in its forecast of the upcoming meetings.

If the government has its way, the “green pass” will serve as an “entry ticket” within Austria from mid-April 2021. The "top-ups" should initially be carried out by means of corona tests. At a later point in time - probably from June 2021 - any Covid 19 vaccinations should also be noted.

For the time being, however, the aspired equality of vaccinated, tested and recovered people is still a long way off. According to Anschober, reliable scientific evidence is needed first that vaccination also significantly reduces the risk of the virus being passed on.

The opposition saw the review deadline for the amendment as set too short and also protested against the provisions on the Green Passport that were submitted at short notice. The SPÖ interpreted this as a mockery of the population. The FPÖ fears a surveillance state, the NEOS locate excessive regulations and contradictions in the legal texts.
