The Greek airline Skyexpress took delivery of its first Airbus A321neo at the end of last week. Another unit of this type is to be added to the fleet this year, so that the fleet will grow to 23 machines.
Skyexpress was once a regional airline that only operated turboprop aircraft. In the middle of the corona pandemic, it was a surprise that some Airbus A320neo machines were ordered. It now operates four Airbus A320s, eight A320neos and one A321neo. In the turbo test area, the fleet consists of four ATR42-500, two ATR72-500 and six ATR72-600.
“We are very proud to welcome our first AIRBUS A321neo. True to our vision of offering our passengers a unique travel experience, we are working hard to constantly improve our services in order to further increase our competitiveness and make a significant contribution to our country's economy. As part of that vision, the enhanced capabilities of our new aircraft will be a very important tool for both our team and travelers,” said Skyexpress CEO George Lioumbis on the acquisition of the newest member of the fleet.
In the meantime, the carrier even describes itself as “Greece's largest airline”, although the criteria used to classify it are not disclosed. In the 2023 summer flight schedule, 3.800.00 seats are offered and 64 airports in Greece and Europe are on the route network. Compared to the previous period, the offer has been increased by around 20 percent.
