The Greek Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis assumes that the upcoming summer season 2021 will be better than last year. Although the country fared better than other countries that are heavily dependent on tourism, it also suffered enormous declines.

Theoharis said that the comeback of tourism in Greece will be based on three pillars: a new campaign will promote the Mediterranean country as a safe holiday destination, health protocols within the industry will be improved and at the same time movement protocols will be created. He also refers to the agreement with Israel, because it was agreed that vaccinated people would be exempt from quarantine on both sides. Further agreements are to follow.

If possible, Greece wants to keep all destinations open for as many travelers as possible in summer 2021. However, it has not yet been determined whether a negative corona test must be submitted for entry, whether vaccinated people are excluded or whether it is even necessary to start a quarantine. At the EU level, the Greek government, together with Spain and Malta, is pressing for exceptions for people who have already been vaccinated against Covid-19.
