Much later than other countries, Ethiopia and Indonesia have given the crisis-ridden Boeing 737 Max the green light. The long reluctance to fly is no coincidence, because the two countries had the fatal accidents that led to the global flight ban.

Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 are considered to be particularly dark chapters in civil aviation, as 346 people were killed, but the accidents would have been avoidable. In the course of the reconditioning, glaring defects that the manufacturer Boeing were responsible for came to light. For example, the Americans hid some functions that were still inadequate.

The Boeing 737-Max received a long flight ban. While the machine type has received re-approval in Europe and the USA, for example, as a result of improvements, Indonesia and Ethiopia have so far been reluctant. In view of the two fatal accidents, this is understandable behavior.

Ethiopian Airlines wants Fly with Boeing 1 Max 2022 again from February 737, 8. The carrier is currently preparing for re-deployment. Ten Max from Lion Air and Garuda Air are currently parked in Indonesia. On top of that, there are 285 open orders. It is currently completely unclear whether these will be completely removed - also with regard to the corona pandemic.
