Vienna International Airport was used by around 2022 million passengers in the first half of 11,8. This was 35 percent below the comparative value for 2019. Compared to the same period in the previous year, sales improved to 294,7 million euros. The result is reported at 52,3 million euros.

Compared to the first half of 2021, which was characterized by a low level of traffic due to the pandemic, the traffic figures at Vienna Airport increased significantly in the first half of 2022: From January to June 2022, the number of passengers in the Flughafen Wien Group including the foreign subsidiaries Malta Airport and Kosice Airport increased a total of 11.772.582 passengers (+391,8%). At the Vienna location, the number of passengers rose to 9.237.544 (+369,7%). The number of flight movements rose from January to June 2022 to 81.017 take-offs and landings. Average seat occupancy (seat load factor) increased year-on-year from 52,8% to 71,6% (H1/2019: 75,1%). The volume of freight fell slightly compared to the previous year to 123.900 tons (air freight and trucking) (-0,7%). Malta Airport recorded passenger growth to 2022 travelers (+2.345.296%) in the first half of 480,8. Kosice Airport recorded passenger growth to 189.742 travelers (+>500%).

In H1/2022, the Flughafen Wien Group generated revenue of €294,7 million, which corresponds to an increase of 129,2%. Compared to the previous year, the EBITDA increased to €143,1 million and the EBIT increased to €75,8 million. The net result before minorities increased to €52,3 million. Net debt decreased to €55,8 million (December 31.12.2021, 150,4: €24,0 million). The free cash flow amounts to minus €1 million (H2021/2,2: minus €XNUMX million).

Revenues in the Airport segment increased in H1/2022 compared to the previous year to EUR 134,2 million, the segment EBIT improved to EUR 16,4 million. The Handling & Security Services segment recorded an increase in revenue

€ 56,9 million, the segment EBIT improved to € 0,2 million. This also includes the security services of VIAS and the handling services of Vienna Aircraft Handling (VAH) and Vienna Passenger Handling Services (VPHS). In the Retail & Properties segment, sales increased to € 1 million in H2022/57,3 and are thus 77,9% above the previous year's level. The segment EBIT improved to €30,8 million. Revenues in the Malta segment increased to €1 million in H2022/37,3, segment EBIT amounted to €16,6 million. Revenues in the other segments segment were €1 million in H2022/9,1. The segment EBIT was €11,8 million.

investments increased again

In the first six months of 2022, a total of EUR 25,9 million (H1/2021: EUR 17,3 million) was invested in intangible assets, property, plant and equipment and investment property or made as an advance payment. The largest investment projects at the Vienna location relate to photovoltaic systems at €4,3 million, adaptations for the exit entry system at €3,6 million and investments for the sorter in Terminal 3 at €2,1 million invested a total of € 6,5 million in the first six months.

The outlook for the rest of the year also remains positive. Since Flughafen Wien AG is practically debt-free, we also have the necessary economic strength to tackle investments that have been postponed due to the corona virus. In 2023, Vienna Airport will be a pioneer in becoming a Green Airport and will operate in a CO2-neutral manner in the future. Our large PV system also contributes to security of supply, so on sunny days we generate all of the electricity ourselves,” states Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Airport expects 22 million passengers

Due to the good traffic development, Vienna Airport expects around 22 million travelers in 2022 as a whole and 28 million travelers in the Flughafen Wien Group (including investments). For 2022, the Flughafen Wien Group expects revenues of around €670 million, a positive EBITDA of at least €290 million and a positive annual result of at least €100 million. The company's net debt is expected to fall below €50 million . The investments will be around €84 million. The present values ​​are based on the assumption that there will be no pandemic-related lockdowns or massive traffic restrictions in autumn and winter. Another factor of uncertainty remains the further course of the war in Ukraine, which cannot be estimated today, and its consequences for air traffic.

“Following the crisis years of 2020 and 2021, passenger numbers are increasing significantly this year. In July, with 2,8 million passengers, we already reached 87,7% of the pre-crisis level, and even almost 90% at peak times. For 2022 we expect around 22 million travelers at the Vienna location, which corresponds to around 69% of 2019. Especially in an international comparison, Vienna Airport is not only coping well with the crisis, but also with the restart with strong passenger growth, especially in the main travel season and mastered without significant irregularities. This is mainly thanks to all the employees at Vienna Airport, especially in passenger and baggage handling, security control, terminal operations and our system partners, who put in a great deal of effort here every day. This is also recognised: The global airport association ACI has voted Vienna Airport the "Best Airport in Europe 2022", said Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, proud of the entire airport team.

Group-wide 3,6 million passengers in July 2022

In July 2022, the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) recorded 3,6 million travelers (+95,8% compared to 2021), compared to the pre-crisis level (July 2019) the decrease is only 12,3 %.

The number of passengers at the Vienna Airport location also improved significantly in July 2022 compared to the previous year to 2.773.629 travelers (+88,1%). Compared to the pre-crisis level, the number of passengers in July 2022 at the Vienna location is 87,7% from July 2019 - i.e. around 12,3 percent lower than before the corona pandemic.

The number of local passengers increased in Vienna compared to the previous year to 2.020.645 (+83,4%), the number of transfer passengers to 745.074 (+102,9%). Flight movements recorded an increase to 2022 in July 19.319 (+42,3% compared to 2021). At 21.372 tons, freight was only 8,5% below the pre-crisis level (July 2019).

Passenger traffic at Vienna Airport in July 2022 increased to 972.903 (+80,8%), to Eastern Europe to 259.846 (+50,7%) compared to 2021. Passenger traffic to North America increased to 50.339 (+180,3, 29.466%) and Africa recorded an increase to 125,7 (+2021%) compared to 2021. To the Near and Middle East the passenger volume increased compared to 84.053 to 208,5 (+19.664%) and to the Far East to 500 ( +>XNUMX%).

In July 2022, Malta Airport recorded an increase in passenger traffic to 689.145 (+121,1%) and Kosice Airport to 95.614 (+209,7%) compared to the previous year.
