A 51-year-old man from Schleswig-Holstein died on a flight from Istanbul to Hamburg, which was operated by Pegasus. According to the police, there is no evidence of third-party negligence, but a corona infection was found in the course of the autopsy.
According to the current state of information, Corona should not be the cause of death. The executive stated, among other things, that the male passenger had various previous illnesses. During the flight he is said to have sat by the window and wore a mask. The cabin crew is said to have only become aware of the fact that the man did not leave the seat when disembarking. He couldn't either, because at that point he was no longer alive.
Some tabloid media have even claimed that the man had already died in Turkey and that he was put on the plane to make him a problem for Germany. Forensic medicine opposes this representation, because the autopsy showed that the deceased passenger definitely boarded the Pegasus aircraft alive. However, no information was given on the exact cause of death - also for reasons of privacy protection.
Due to the positive corona testing carried out posthumously, the death has consequences for the passengers who sat around. These were made happy by the Hamburg health department with a quarantine notice. The death occurred on October 25, 2021, but was only made public by the police on Monday.
