Parcels from the mail-order company Amazon will also be transported in future with Airbus A330-300P2F freighters. A corresponding leasing contract for ten machines was concluded. Operating carrier is Hawaiian Airlines.
The conversion of the ten Airbus A330-300P2F is carried out by Elbe-Flugzeugwerke GmbH. This company has specialized in the conversion of passenger aircraft into freighters for several years. The first A330-300P2F aircraft is expected to join the Amazon Air fleet in late 2023.
"We are very pleased to welcome Airbus to our Amazon Air fleet," said Philippe Karam, Director, Amazon Global Air Fleet & Sourcing. "These A330-300s are not only the first of their kind in our fleet, they are also the newest and largest aircraft for Amazon Air, allowing us to deliver more customer packages on every flight."
Launched in 2012, the A330P2F conversion program is a collaboration between ST Aerospace, Airbus and joint venture EFW. While both the A330-200 and A330-300 are candidates for conversion, the A330-300P2F, with its longer fuselage, is particularly suited to integrators and express carriers due to its high volumetric payload capacity for lower-density cargo.
"Amazon's endorsement of our cargo aircraft speaks volumes about the market value of the A330 and the growing position of Airbus widebody aircraft in the cargo market," said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International. "Amazon has earned a reputation for delivering its goods to our doorsteps with exceptional speed and consistency, and we are very proud that our aircraft are trusted to become an important link in this remarkable logistics chain."
