British Airways will now join the latest season of strikes, as ground staff stationed at its home base in London Heathrow voted to walk out. The responsible unions Unite and GMB want to call for a strike for several days.
The reason for this is that the employee representatives are of the opinion that the fact that previous wage cuts were reversed in the management area, but not in the case of ground staff. Depending on the occupational group, it is up to ten percent of the monthly salary. The unions do not want to accept that, and it is currently not impossible that the walkouts could be extended to flight attendants and pilots. One is also in a clinch with their representatives.
British Airways has officially expressed its disappointment that BA ground staff at Heathrow voted to strike. Nevertheless, one wants to continue negotiations and hopes that the strike can be prevented in this way. The trade unions are less optimistic, because they initially want to see a much improved offer. BA counters that one-off payments have been turned down and that the pandemic has made a loss of around £XNUMX billion. The employee representatives want to announce their strike dates in the next few days. Expect chaos at Heathrow if work stops.
