Helvetic Airways, the Swiss regional airline, will station an Embraer aircraft at Bern-Belp Airport during the upcoming summer flight schedule from the end of May to mid-October. The decision to place another aircraft in Bern underlines the airline's efforts to further expand its presence in Switzerland and in particular to strengthen holiday traffic. In addition to improved connections to popular holiday destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Kos and Rhodes, other destinations in the Mediterranean region are also expected to be served.

This measure is a response to the continuing high demand for direct flights from the Swiss capital to popular holiday destinations in southern Europe. Helvetic Airways' flight schedule in Bern is being increased, particularly during the summer months when tourist traffic is at its peak. The airline sees the expansion of its route network not only as an opportunity to serve existing passenger flows, but also to attract new customers to the region.

Increase in capacity through additional Embraer aircraft

The decision to station another Embraer aircraft at Bern Airport is no coincidence. In recent years, Helvetic Airways has increasingly established itself as a reliable partner for holiday airlines and relies on efficient regional aircraft such as the Embraer 190 and 195, which are designed for medium-haul routes with a capacity of around 100 to 120 passengers. Due to their size and cost-effectiveness, these aircraft are ideal for direct connections to popular holiday regions, as they meet the needs of both passengers and the airline in terms of cost efficiency.

The choice of the Embraer aircraft for the expansion of the route network shows that Helvetic Airways continues to rely on a flexible and sustainable fleet strategy that enables the airline to react quickly and efficiently to changes in air traffic. The aircraft type also offers a long range, which means that destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Kos and Rhodes can be reached with only a short travel time from Bern.

New holiday destinations from Bern

From the end of May 2025, Helvetic Airways will fly to the new summer destinations from Bern. Palma de Mallorca, the popular holiday destination in the Balearic Islands, will be one of the main destinations of the expanded flight connections. In recent years, demand for flights from Bern to Palma has been consistently high, so the direct flight will now become an integral part of the airline's summer flight schedule.

Another important destination will be the Greek island of Rhodes, which is particularly popular with sun worshippers and culture lovers alike. Kos, another Greek island, will also be accessible from Bern during the summer months. Both destinations are very popular with passengers who want to enjoy not only the cultural sights but also the beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean climate.

Helvetic Airways' decision to add these popular holiday destinations to its schedule is based on an intensive analysis of the market and passenger demand. The airline expects that the combination of direct flights from Bern and an efficient fleet will lead to increased demand.

Outlook on the summer flight schedule and expansion of flight connections

In addition to the destinations mentioned, it is conceivable that Helvetic Airways could further expand its summer destinations should demand increase accordingly. The airline strives to tailor its flight connections to the needs of its customers and is therefore in constant contact with airports and tourism players to identify potential new destinations.

For the 2025 summer flight schedule, Helvetic Airways plans to further increase its commitment to Bern. As demand for direct flights to southern destinations is consistently high, additional aircraft and routes could be added in the future. Bern Airport itself benefits from the expansion of the flight offer, as the increased frequency and the new destinations improve the international travel offer for passengers from the region.

The position of Helvetic Airways in the Swiss aviation market

In recent years, Helvetic Airways has established itself as a strong alternative to the major European airlines. The airline not only offers connections within Switzerland, but also numerous holiday destinations in other European countries. Helvetic Airways has taken on an important role in regional air traffic, particularly through its close cooperation with Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss).

The expansion of the flight schedule to Palma de Mallorca, Kos and Rhodes strengthens Helvetic Airways' position as a competent provider of summer flights and confirms the airline's efforts to continuously expand its customer base. By stationing an Embraer aircraft in Bern and introducing new direct connections, the airline is once again demonstrating its flexibility and ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
