Hifly Malta, which specializes in the provision of charter and ACMI services, phased out its only Airbus A380. The last time the 14,1-year-old superjumbo was used as a makeshift freighter.

Hifly once planned to operate up to three Airbus A380s via the Maltese subsidiary. These should be used, for example, in the context of ACMI contracts for other airlines. However, it stayed with the 9H-MIP. Hifly Malta operated the last commercial flight with this aircraft on December 15, 2020 from Shanghai to Hamburg. Various medical products were transported. The 9H-MIP has now been returned to the lessor.

It is the only superjumbo to date that has had a second life as a used aircraft after being phased out by the first operator. Hifly ends the A380 experiment entirely. The previous plans to build up a small sub-fleet have been shelved.
