The Romanian airline HiSky Europe plans to offer flights to the United States of America from the Irish capital Dublin. The necessary approval has already been received from the USA.

The first Airbus A321LR aircraft was recently flown into the fleet. This model is to be used for future transatlantic flights. However, at least at present, there are no plans to fly across the "big pond" from the mainland, for example from the Republic of Moldova or Romania, but from Dublin. HiSky Europe wants to set up a kind of mini hub there. The flight plan is to be coordinated in such a way that passengers from Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, and Iaşi as well as Chişinău can transfer in the Irish capital for the onward flight to the USA.

Passengers should benefit from the fact that Dublin Airport has preclearance facilities operated by the US border protection agency. To put it simply: the entry formalities can be completed before boarding the aircraft, so that no further checks are necessary after landing. This procedure saves travelers a lot of time, because especially at the larger airports in the United States of America, there can sometimes be long queues in front of the control desks.

Although HiSky Europe has officially confirmed the USA plans, they are still silent about which cities they would like to offer in the United States of America. The fact that you want to open the routes with your own feeder is no coincidence. Dublin is already being served from Bucharest, Cluj Napoca and Iași. The Chisinau flights are formally offered by the parent company HiSky, which is based in the Republic of Moldova.

The fleet intended for transatlantic traffic currently consists of two Airbus A321LRs, which were taken over this year. According to the current state of affairs, the aircraft are to be stationed in Dublin. However, it is quite possible that these could be used from Romania – with a stopover in Dublin – in the direction of the USA. A lot is still open, but according to HiSky it should be ready soon. Company boss Iulian Scorpan told local media, among other things, that if everything goes according to plan, the first US flights could start as early as the end of summer 2023. It can therefore be expected that the presentation and the start of sales of the first routes will not last very long.
