The airline Transavia France will offer the same seating capacity in this year's midsummer as in 2019. In the past few weeks, 40 percent more tickets have been sold than in the comparison period “before Corona”, explained managing director Nathalie Stubler in a TV interview with BFM.

The manager admitted that sales stagnated for many months. But now you benefit from a “strong catch-up effect” and the fact that the passengers “have a strong appetite for vacation and travel”. At the same time, she emphasizes that the price level should be below that of 2019.

“In July and August we have the same seating capacity as in the height of summer 2019 in sales. It is already a lot of catching up and we are offering our tickets this year much cheaper than in the same period in 2019, ”said Stubler. “We've been in the air for a few months. The workload was very different. In April it was around 50 percent and now in June we have reached 70 percent, with the trend rising sharply ”.

CEO Smith wants to double the low-cost fleet

Both Transavia and Transavia France have always had a mix of city and leisure destinations in their programs in the past. This year the focus is clearly on hot water targets, because these should be particularly popular with the population. Transavia France has turned the flight schedule upside down: “For example, we are increasingly flying to Greece, which is in very high demand from French customers this year. In direct comparison with 2019, we have 40 percent more offer in the direction of Greece, ”said Stubler. There is also increased demand in the direction of Spain and Portugal and capacity has increased accordingly. In general, the Transavia France boss sees “strong potential for summer 2021”.

Even CEO Ben Smith makes no secret of the fact that the two Transavia airlines will play an even more important role within the Air France-KLM group in the future. At the beginning of the week he said, among other things: “We have accelerated the growth of our low-cost carrier Transavia. The point-to-point market is becoming more and more commodified and Transavia is the right tool to compete with our biggest low-cost providers. We are doubling the size of the Transavia fleets. "
