This year, HOI is celebrating its 80th anniversary and is setting new standards in live entertainment and green events. When reporting on the show "Holiday On Ice - No Limits", keywords such as spectacular, unique, grandiose are used. So it was time to visit this show to take a closer look and see if it really delivers what it promises. On January 16, 2025, the time had come in Vienna. The premiere of the ice show attracted over 4000 visitors to the Vienna Stadthalle.

Peter O'Keeffe, the producer of the show, wants to "abduct" the audience into a magical world full of fantasy and innovation. He succeeds in doing this by using a variety of tricks of modern technology and, of course, the production itself. The use of impressive technology alone makes the show a visionary highlight for young and old. In the castings for the actors of his shows, he rigorously selects the best of the best figure skaters.

Wann und wo: The spectacular show “Holiday on Ice – No Limits” can be seen in the Vienna Stadthalle from January 16th and will continue until January 26th, 2025. There are other opportunities in Innsbruck and various cities in Germany.

creation of the show

In Toledo, Ohio (USA), the very first show "Holiday on Ice" was performed, which was designed as an entertainment show for a small hotel. This show was only performed for one week during the Christmas holiday season. This historical background influenced and helped the show get its name.

Holiday on Ice 2025 again certified as a Green Event

Both the show in the previous year, 2024, "Holiday on Ice", and this year's show successfully achieved their green event goal and took significant steps to contribute to environmental protection. It not only raises awareness of sustainable events, but also underlines the goal of the Wiener Stadthalle and the Wien Holding company to make a conscious contribution to environmental protection. In doing so, these companies raise awareness of sustainable events and play an important role in putting Vienna in the foreground of the media as an environmentally conscious city. Part of the ticket proceeds will be donated to UNICEF Austria.

Preparation in the town hall for the show

In order to make this show possible for the audience, Holiday on Ice Productions and the Vienna Stadthalle went to enormous lengths to build an ice surface measuring over 700 square metres within 30 hours. A pre-cooled surface was transformed into a 25 centimetre thick layer of ice using 24 cubic metres of water in 3,5 hours.

For technology and light pixel creations, this show is a must. It features a unique, impressive, three-dimensional LED wall made up of over two million individual light pixels on an area of 200 square meters. They also use 300 spotlights and an innovative kinetic light installation, which gives the show ingenious lighting effects.

content of the show

In the show "No Limits," a young man is desperately searching for a home. This young man, named Flynn, has had to fend for himself since he was a little boy.

He travels around town in his RV looking for a place to call home. One year turns into several when he finally realizes that the last place he hasn't visited is the game "No Limits."

The audience is excited and travels with him through a variety of adventures. In the game, a virtual universe in cyberspace, Flynn finds a place where everyone can be who they are. This new place in cyberspace is a world without borders and the only place where Flynn gets the feeling that he counts and means something to someone. The emptiness in his heart is getting smaller and smaller. Different stagings from clubs, Venice Beach, the Wild West, a game of chess, a world of cotton candy and even a Pac-Man game from the 1980s enchant the audience. The large number of different traffic jams in the show means that the show goes much too quickly. The boy only has one goal: he wants to reach the golden level and faces a variety of challenges to achieve this.

Human connections are at the heart of the 2025 show

The artists of this show want to bring the audience closer to the story of overcoming boundaries (Flynn), finding love and the power of human connection through a show.

The spectacular show elements were in the staging of the chess game, the sleeping girl, the club, the Roman Empire. The elements of the cotton candy world and the Pak-Man were heartwarming.

The technology and light show in the fire world was brilliant. The performance of the figure skaters was out of this world. The dance duets on the ice were spectacular. It is admirable what the human body can achieve - with enough discipline, passion, practice and of course talent.

In the performance with ice, snowballs and the ice warriors, the actors played with the audience. They shot gifts into the audience and released about 1,5 large balloons disguised as snowballs into the audience. This made all the audience members happy and was a lovely gesture from the producers and the town hall.

The highlight of the show was the dramatic chess game and the Colosseum in Rome, where gladiators take part in a chariot race.

Conclusion: A unique evening

The show "No Limits" provides the audience with spectacular live entertainment, visionary, modern video projections, kinetic lighting, beautiful, colorful costumes, great make-up and, above all, the best figure skaters in the world. Most of them come from Russia.

This light spectacle, the performance of the artists, the great show staging, costumes and the producer's lively taste in music make this show a unique experience.

I wish all future visitors a unique evening and would be happy to receive feedback on how you liked the show.
