Hong Kong: Cathay flirting with Boeing 777-8F order

The airline Cathay Pacific is looking for a successor for its Boeing 747F fleet. A special eye was cast on the B777-8F. So far, the Airbus A350F was also considered a possible candidate.

According to a report by the Reuters news agency, which refers to people familiar with the matter, the Hong Kong carrier is said to have opted for the American model after a lengthy evaluation. An order for six copies is currently being negotiated.

Cathay Pacific has traditionally had a strong presence in the cargo business. It operates some cargo planes, including Boeing 747F, which are now to be replaced. Both the Boeing 777-8F and the competitor model, the Airbus A350F, were examined more closely. According to Reuters, the choice should have fallen on the American model. The decisive point could possibly have been that the payload of the B777-8F is slightly higher.
