The airline Cathay Pacific is currently in talks with lessors to be able to fleet up to fifty Airbus A320neos. The aim is to get the coveted machines faster, because the delivery slots at the European aircraft manufacturer have been fully booked for years.
Specifically, according to a report by Bloomberg, Cathay Pacific does not want to lease the aircraft, but rather buy them from the lessors. Direct orders from Airbus would be preferred, but deliveries would have to wait until the end of this decade. This is taking too long for the Hong Kong-based group, because demand has increased sharply since the borders were opened.
The 50 aircraft are to be used by both the mainline and the subsidiary HK Express. The company declined to comment on Bloomberg's reporting, saying only that it is in regular contact with lessors and aircraft manufacturers.
So far, the aircraft flying for Cathay Pacific have usually been bought. On the other hand, the subsidiary HK Express mainly flies with leased aircraft. The mainline fleet currently consists of 191 aircraft, most of which are widebodies. Only 16 units belong to the category of narrow-body aircraft.
