The Chinese Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will simplify the quarantine regulations from Friday, August 12, 2022. From this date, the mandatory isolation in special hotel accommodation will be reduced to three days.

Currently, the SAR requires you to stay in an assigned quarantine hotel for seven days. This may not be left during isolation. What is new is that you can leave this after three days. However, you cannot get rid of the corona surveillance, because you can stay at home or in a self-chosen accommodation facility, but you are subject to certain restrictions.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee explained, among other things, that after leaving the quarantine accommodation, you will be under so-called “medical surveillance” for another four days. You can then move around fairly freely, but not enter any places where it is necessary to show your vaccination card. These include, for example, gyms, bars, entertainment and shopping centers. Likewise, you are not allowed to participate in mask-free activities and you are not allowed to enter certain sports centers. Access to retirement homes is also denied.

However, if you test negative every day during the four-day period, you are allowed to use public transport, go to work, and enter certain malls or public markets.
